 Daily Photo - Nov. 01-15

For 2020, I am photographing every day, and posting the best of each day in half-month increments.

2020 November 01, Sunday

I took this photograph through a kaleidoscope. To me, it looks like some fantastical planet.

2020 November 02, Monday

This leaf, like almost all the others around, has fallen to the ground. Still, though, it does its duty to shed rain. It makes a good metaphor for those who give their lives in the service of something greater, performing their task even as they die.

2020 November 03, Tuesday

I saw a bird through my window, quite nearby in my backyard. I grabbed my camera for a shot. Apparently, the bird saw me, too! This may not be the best-composed photograph, but it sure does capture the specific moment of takeoff.

2020 November 04, Wednesday

I find something very serene in sunset silhouettes of inundated grasses. The reflection of the dusky sky in the water is certainly a lovely bonus.

2020 November 05, Thursday

Years ago, I visited my cousin Richard and his family. They had just renovated their powder room and installed a tap with an open-top spout. I fell in love, and vowed to get one of my own someday. The rest, as they say, is (now!) history.

"Birds in flight" wasn't a theme I imagined for this post, yet it seems to have become a subplot. Perhaps I should have anticipated it. This project has really been tuning me into how the world changes as the seasons pass.

2020 November 07, Saturday

I had gone the previous evening to my parents' house to celebrate my father's birthday. On Saturday I took a stroll through the nearby graveyard and snapped this picture looking up the hill toward the Church. It is actually across the street from the cemetery.

2020 November 08, Sunday

The Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on a great many aspects of life. One of those is the annual Remembrance Day service. Instead of conducting the full ceremony on November 11th, the local Legion pre-recorded most of it on Sunday, November 08. I was one of a very small handful of invited guests. I took video (along with another videographer). Later, my parents and I edited it into a presentation to be posted online for the town to watch.

2020 November 09, Monday

When I look back at this picture I feel it looks a bit mundane. Perhaps that comes down to composition; there isn't anything particularly attention-grabbing in the foreground to focus the scene.

2020 November 10, Tuesday

My prize for helping out with the Remembrance Day video was a switchover to my Winter tires, courtesy of my Dad. He had a remarkable day to do it: All across the province weather records were shattered by unseasonable warmth.

2020 November 11, Wednesday

The Cenotaph Ceremony on Remembrance Day proper was very brief; just the official wreaths were laid and the litany was completed. It is unfortunate as this is the first year with the monument in its new location. More importantly, the restricted ceremony represents a challenge in our duty to remember those who serve. On the upside, the video presentation we made received several hundred views. So, too did a separate one we did for the schools. I am glad the community was able to adapt to the situation.

These two make quite the handsome pair. I found this photo a little tricky to edit. The in-camera stabilization did an excellent job, considering I did not use a tripod. Still, at 1/30th of a second, the lines aren't as crisp as I would like.

Water is so much more dynamic than we usually credit it! The stream of smoother water amongst the more wavy surroundings really struck me. My mother would say, "still water runs deep". Indeed, I believe that meandering course is where the shallow estuary is slightly less-shallow.

2020 November 15, Sunday

I leave off this post with a look at a misty Mount Cameron, as seen through a pair of trees along the shore. The deciduous trees have lost their leaves, but the grasses on the mudflats retain that autumnal glow.
