Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co.

Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia is a village with fewer than a thousand residents, but lots of spirit... And lots of spirits! I dashed down there on October 07, 2017 and visited a winery before heading to OctoBEERfest.

Above is a cute garden squirrel; below is a collection of wine stoppers. Both were located at Beavercreek Winery, where the guy on the left cheerfully greets visitors. It was my first time visiting a winery. My brother and his wife love going to them, so this was a nifty insight into their world of tastings and pretty gardens.

October is my favourite month . It's especially a treat in an agricultural area like the Annapolis Valley. The seasonal display on the right, located near the beaver statue, demonstrates the colours of the Autumn. I know I am probably just seeing patterns in the static, but I think the green one looks like a swan.

I suppose it is a hallmark of wineries that double as event venues, but Beavercreek packs a lot of picturesque vignettes into its location, like the one on the left. Below is a scene from between the winery and the next destination of my day.

OctoBEERfest is an event put on by the Lunn's Mill Beer Company (Lunn's Mill is the former name of Lawrencetown). They are a new business, and this was their first Octoberfest. It was a fairly small event, as far as such things go. I heard about it because my brother's band was playing the gig. He scored us some tickets, which included the meal, entertainment, a beerstein, and one drink ticket. I chose a weißbier, and went back for seconds. Below is the first group of performers. They set a more traditional Octoberfest tone, before my brother's rockier outfit took stage. Below and right are my sister-in-law and niece. Though I doubt the toddler was likely to imbibe, the event licence forbade her access to the tent.

Above we see my brother's band. They did not have their lead guitarist, but none of the audience noticed. They had a fairly long set, and received plenty of applause. It was an excellent warm Autumn evening, with music, family, and the best food and drink I've had in my last three Octoberfests.

I scamper around the countryside, taking random snapshots. While I have a basic idea of how to run my camera, I have great admiration for those who are able to translate the hobby into their profession. The Lunn's Mill folks employed a "real" photographer to run a photobooth for the event.
In addition to the getup you see on the left, he also had a few costume elements and props for people to wear. He was set up to take four shots at a time, which were fit into a collage.

Below is a photograph from the middle of a song. I am partial to the ones that my brother sang, of course, but their main vocalist really got into it.

After my brother's set ended, he had a chance to check out the photobooth, not to mention the excellent food. We were not entirely sure what we would find when we got to Lawrencetown, but we had a great time.

To end offs with a few final strains of music, below is the band which played aftermy brother's.

Any thoughts? Leave a comment-

On the left is my niece, watching the action.

Below is my father, during one of the more energetic songs.
