October 2019 was a very busy month. Almost as soon as I got settled from my work assignment in Montréal, I was off again to the other end of the province for my best friend's bachelor party. Just a week later, it was time for the wedding.
Some of Jamie and Erin's bandmates provided accompaniment. They serenaded the guests before the wedding began, during the registry signing, and after the ceremony ended.
Jamie and Erin met in a band which meets in the same community centre where they got married. Music has bound them together from the start, so it was natural that it be their wedding theme.
Also on hand was Cristal, a friend of Erin's who is usually on the other side of the country. Erin's preparation room was a hive of happy activity.
I got to wear a few different hats throughout the day, including a photographer's. Consequently, I got to peek in on Erin's preparations from time to time. In this photo, her friend Krista does her makeup as the videographer takes a shot.
Jamie and Erin had a plethora of unique elements in their wedding. Of them all, perhaps the most personality showed through when the pair did a duet as Erin marched into the room.
While the happy couple and their retinue went outside for pictures, the guests shifted from the gymnasium over to a reception room. It was decked out with photos and music notes, ringed with tables laden with snacks, and filled with activities to do. Here, a trio works on a few clues in a giant crossword made just for the occasion.
I suggested we wander over into the nearby trees for a few forest pics.
Autumn in Nova Scotia is always gorgeous, but the weather is fickle. It rained during the actual ceremony, and we worried that we would not be able to take any outdoor pictures. Not only did the precipitation stop, we even got a little sun!
Here's the couple with their best men. I'm on the left, Peter is on the right.
Ever fearless, Erin was up for just about anything that the photographers would call out! The rock climbing structure in front of the centre made for a nifty take on the balcony scene.
Jamie's mother handmade Erin's boquet of paper flowers . Erin is thrilled that it will never wilt. Some of the flowers are made of sheetmusic.
Jamie and Erin have a lot of tall friends... Not long after arriving at Hal-Con, they met a huge Bumblebee from Transformers.
Below, is their news interview. All through the convention people congratulated them. What a great cap to their first wedded week!
We went to fewer sessions this year, mostly because there were so many photo opportunities to pursue. Jamie was keen to get a shot with someone dressed as Batman. Still, we did get to the flash mob, a performance by the improv group Dorks & Dungeons, a dance lesson, a Q&A session by John Barrowman, and (my favourite!) a talk by spray paint artist Nathan Salmon.
Jamie and Erin hatched the idea of wearing their wedding attire to Hal-Con in the hopes of getting their picture taken with as many characters as possible. I was happy to snap the photographs! Jamie also got a selfie of our content little gang.
I have no idea who this winged character is, but the costume is epic! I felt underdressed for the day with my simple Star Trek shirt.
There was one photo above all the others that Jamie and Erin wanted to get. Strangely, it proved quite elusive! Then, just when we were giving up on the idea we saw the character we wanted. What a fitting way to close out this entry, with sci-fi icon Darth Vader... It's such a pity that he's blinking in the shot!
