Daily Photo - June 01-15

For 2020, I am photographing every day, and posting the best of each day in half-month increments.

2020 June 01, Monday

Just like the back half of May, the first portion of June 2020 has been about moving past barriers. Things are beginning to open up now that we have fewer cases of Covid-19. Massive protests in the USA and around the world are calling for action against systemic racism. On much less significant personal level, I walked farther up the shore than I had previously. That's where I captured this tranquil waterline. I am very privileged to be taking scenic strolls while so many others fight for their lives against a deadly virus, or risk infection or injury taking to the streets to improve the world.

2020 June 02, Tuesday

I was quite the Lego fiend as a kid, and still enjoy breaking out the bricks now and then. Over the years it seems I have amassed quite a sizeable population of Lego-people! Considering them now, I can't help but note how overwhelmingly monoethnic and male they are. Here's hoping kids today see a little more diversity in their toys. On the upside, almost everyone is looking at the camera, which is a rare feat for group shots!

2020 June 03, Wednesday

While on my walk on June 01 I came across a small beach of pitted stones. I think they look interesting, and the texture of them is a delight.

2020 June 04, Thursday

I often see these pretty little yellowy birds, but catching one with my camera is nigh impossible... They're quick little creatures! They certainly have a talent for blending into their surroundings, too. I rather wish this one weren't looking away. Still, I'm glad to have made any kind of shot at all.

2020 June 05, Friday

Lately these wildflowers have been in bloom. I think they're absolutely beautiful.

2020 June 06, Saturday

I was really, really pleased with the photos I got in the second half of May, and a little underwhelmed by my efforts for this entry. Still, there are a few that make me think there's hope for me yet as a landscape and wildlife photographer. This certainly is one of them.

2020 June 07, Sunday

Can it be June without the smell of lilacs in bloom? These have always been among my favourite shrubs. My sister is lucky to have them in flower on her birthday. I am fortunate that my house came with some that bloom in purple and white. A few days after taking this picture I came across a striking fuchsia example. I did photograph it, but went with a different picture for this SnapDash entry.

2020 June 08, Monday

I've been doing the majority of my walking down along the shore. For a change, I took the high road and went up the hill across the street from my house. Looking back down I see my home, sweet home.

2020 June 09, Tuesday

As I mentioned earlier, lilacs are a key feature of June in Canada. So, too, are brief thunderstorms. This shot, with an admittedly warped perspective over my patio table, shows the drippy aftermath of such a storm.

2020 June 10, Wednesday

Here's a bit of blue hour at its bluest. I like the moody feel of this picture with the trees on the shoreline framing the radio tower across the estuary and the reflection of its light on the water.

2020 June 11, Thursday

I am fairly certain that the tree arching across the frame here is dead, though it is still (partially) rooted near the shore. Amazingly, a few little sprouts have found purchase in the cracks of its decaying bark, from which they have a delightful view of the water.

2020 June 12, Friday

I do not have much to say about this photograph.

My parents love lupins. I do, too! Unfortunately, they are notoriously difficult to grow domestically. My Dad transplanted this one to his backyard; I hope it does well.

2020 June 14, Sunday

I do love nature photos, but some days it's nice to snap something inside. This is my latest version of a space station made of Ramagon and Lego. I had a more spread-out one, but it was taking up too much of my table! This one still fits all of my little Lego spaceships, wonkily perched at fun angles. If you're going to imagine a low-gravity environment, you might as well have fun with  it, right?

2020 June 15, Monday

I am totally in love with the serene view from the shore of the estuary. As we head toward the Summer Solstice the days are getting longer, and so is the grass. From here on in I may not get to this particular spot as much, now that we are getting into prime tick season. I was glad to have such a lovely day to visit for one last time.
