Daily Photo - October 01-15

For 2020, I am photographing every day, and posting the best of each day in half-month increments.

2020 October 01, Thursday

After such a warm Summer, the properly seasonal temperatures feel quite cool. It's difficult to complain, though, seeing the leaves transform into oranges and golds.

2020 October 02, Friday

Like the leaves, the clouds seem to be jumping onto the orange-and-gold train, too... At least at sunset!

2020 October 03, Saturday

This is the hard drive from my fried computer. So far, I haven't had the opportunity to check if its data can be retrieved. I maintain a guarded optimism.

Adding a rack for hanging utensils must be one of the simplest possible kitchen improvements. It offers remarkable bang for its buck, though, both in terms of convenience and lending a sense of accomplishment.

2020 October 05, Monday

This is a detail from a metal box that my grandmother gave me years ago. As I recall, she kept buttons in it.

2020 October 06, Tuesday

This picture is a little bit of a cheat. I did take it on October 06, but it is actually an imitation of a very similar shot I got a few years ago. I just love that play of colours between the leaves and the sky.

2020 October 07, Wednesday

On October 07 I did some minor rearranging, switching knickknacks for games across a pair of shelves. This lets me have the games closer to the kitchen table, which seems eminently logical to me. The impetus was to prepare for my hosting of our Thursday-evening family game night the following day...

2020 October 08, Thursday

In addition to it being the usual day of the week for board games, this particular Thursday had another significance: My birthday! I was happy to host a small party. In accord with the current Covid-19 prevention guidelines, only ten people (including myself) were in attendance. One of those was my Aunt Debbie, who baked a cake. Also present were my Uncle Bruce, their son Bradley, both my parents, Rolande (a family friend), my friends Laurinda and Trueman (known for owning the local game store), and my pal Calvin. An excellent time was had by all!

2020 October 09. Friday

Mother Nature was a day late with her birthday gift, but it certainly was memorable! I awoke the next morning to a fall of snow. Some of it lingered all the way to the afternoon of the next day!

2020 October 10, Saturday

Although the snow tried to hang on in the shadows, eventually it was no match for the return to warmth. I went for a leisurely stroll up a nearby hill and snagged this shot of the estuary.

2020 October 11, Sunday

Earlier, I posted a metal box that I received from my grandmother. This is a beautifully-inlaid wood box that my father brought back to me from the Middle East. I currently use it to store my dice, since to me they look like pieces of polyhedral treasure.

2020 October 12, Monday

I usually try to limit my meat intake, but it's hard to resist an excellent Thanksgiving meal! My Mom made chicken with stuffing, along with lots of tasty veg. Knowing so many people have been separated from family by the pandemic, I was very thankful to be able to spend the holiday with my parents.

2020 October 13, Tuesday

I am fond of this photograph; I like the gold of the shoreside long grasses and the reflection in the water. I feel, however, like it could be better, though I don't know exactly what about it I would change... Perhaps if I were out in a boat and could capture a wider view of the coast? I just have to keep in mind that "the perfect is the enemy of the good", and there's no point in quibbling here.

2020 October 14, Wednesday

The railway maintenance behind my house continues! This fascinating piece of equipment passed by very slowly, stopping at each railway tie to perform some process involving the motorized arms near its centre.

2020 October 15, Thursday

Always handy, my father came by and did a big chore: Rebuilding the steps to my front deck and giving them a handrail. This adds to work we did earlier in the year to put a railing around the flat portion of the deck. As an architectural technician, I am glad that my porch is finally up to Code!
